Singer/Songwriter Kim Petras has attracted the interest of music producers, corporations, the media and an ever-growing and dedicated fan-following the world over.
Hailing from Cologne, Germany, Kim has been expressing herself through her music for as long as she can remember. Bursting onto the scene at the young age of fourteen, she took her dreams of working in the music industry into her own hands. Using the simple setup of her home PC, Kim began creating her music, by recording her singing, and layering it on top of her own pre-recorded backing vocals.

Hailing from Cologne, Germany, Kim has been expressing herself through her music for as long as she can remember. Bursting onto the scene at the young age of fourteen, she took her dreams of working in the music industry into her own hands. Using the simple setup of her home PC, Kim began creating her music, by recording her singing, and layering it on top of her own pre-recorded backing vocals. Not long after, she began uploading her songs online. Her music reflects the full range of the human experience. Soulful and angelic, raw and spirited, Kim displays an awareness and sensitivity to life, far beyond her years.
And so, with the click of a mouse, Kim went on to take the internet by storm. Back when she had a MySpace page, she drew a million followers and her original webpage had to be modified, as the server crashed for a week until it was moved somewhere that could handle its capacity! The videos on her YouTube Channel have received thousands of hits, often within hours of going live. As of this writing, her cover of Chris Brown’s “Don’t Wake Me Up,” has received over a million views! Celebrity columnist Perez Hilton, has even taken notice, featuring Kim regularly on his pages, telling readers "Everyone should love a singer who knows how to be her own backup singer."
Kim Petras’s reach soon extended far beyond the internet. She has performed in concerts throughout Europe, including the Christopher Street Day Concert in Cologne. German Telecom signed her for a multi-million dollar campaign to sing on an advertising promotion and her music can even be heard on the Sony PlayStation Dance Party! Her love of fashion & style is reflected in her regular work as a model for major periodicals and beauty chains, and her fans are always eager to find out how to track down her latest look.
Kim has appeared on Primetime TV programs spanning the globe including: America (NIGHTLINE, THE INSIDER), Australia (60 Minutes), Spain (Rojo y Negro), Germany (RTL’s Punkt 12), and the United Kingdom (ITV’s CBS Morning Show).
Chosen as the hottest act out of Germany, Kim was featured in an LA Times world music survey “The World Is Our Playlist”. Speaking of the song she wrote herself called “One Piece of Tape” the paper said: “She wrote this in two hours. Pads and pumping beats blend with her angel-like voice, combining a state-of-the-art club sound with traditional song writing to spread the word of tolerance.”
At her core, Kim is all about spreading a message of positivity and courage, inspiring others to follow their dreams and believe in themselves.
Perhaps Perez Hilton put it best, declaring that Kim has a "magical touch". Her talents and contagious enthusiasm have won her a special place in the hearts of many. Finding her own voice, has been a theme throughout Kim Petras’s life, and in doing so, she has helped countless fans to do the same.
Most of my ideas for writing songs come out of my personal experiences in daily life and sometimes from my observations of what is going on around me with my friends and society in general. Sometimes, my songs are almost real time. Some people cope with things that happen to them by journaling or talking to friends and family. I do that too, but sometimes, when I feel passionate enough about my experiences, I write a song!
Usually the lyrics come first and then I create a melody to reflect the mood expressed in the lyrics. After developing the concept of a song, usually I do my creative work using an electronic key board and a laptop loaded with Garage Band music editing software.
When I have an idea or a concept for a song, I am one of those people who just can’t put it down until I am done. Sometimes I will start out during the day time and end up working all night until I have the song where I want it. I just can’t set it aside until I am done with the song. Kim's New Album: One Piece of Tape. “. . . Kim Petras has unveiled her first EP with four new songs (on iTunes) that she wrote and sung herself in between finishing her A levels at school. The short album entitled One Piece of Tape follows on from Kim's appearance with Thomas D. from top German band Die Fantastischen Vier on the Telekom campaign, "A Million Voices" and a number one hit "Beautiful Lie" with German singer Keemo. Of “One Piece of Tape”, which was inspired by the NoH8 campaign, Kim said: I wrote the last song for people who find themselves in the minority. It's just about being different and having people respect you for it.”
